In order for Wiccan rituals to be successful, it is imperative that you prepare for them correctly.
Following the step by step process down to the tiniest detail is very important. Staying calm and focused will ensure that you are able to perform your Wiccan rituals correctly from start to finish.
The Wicca tradition that you are following will determine the steps you take for any given ritual. There is plenty of room for personal preferences and for the specifics of a scenario to be considered. These basic steps will help you to follow the right preparations for Wiccan rituals.
Cleansing for the Wiccan Rituals
There are various elements you can use to purify the body and the mind before you do any Wiccan ritual. They include:
Sage
Salt water
You can also take part in activities that will cleanse the mind such as:
Yoga
Drumming
Controlled breathing
Sound control
Movement control
Declutter
You should never attempt to take part in any Wiccan rituals until you have fully removed your mind and body from stress and clutter. You have to get rid of the stress so you can stay focused on the rituals. Open your mind and connect to the positive energy of the Earth.
Casting the Circle
To get ready for rituals, most Wiccans will cast the circle. This is the process of taking the athame (a knife with a black handle), a crystal, and then defining the space for the energy. A pentacle is going to be drawn in the air in each of the four directions. As the circle is cast, go back to the direction you started with. Ground the energy in the center so that the circle is complete.
Invoke the Directions and the Elements
This is a process that involves calling the various elements and the directions. The Wiccas use their own words or movements to make this happen. They will call:
East – air
South – fire
West – water
North –Earth
Center – balance
Once this is completed, it is time to invocate the God and Goddess. This is accomplished by choosing a characteristic of them that is a good match for the ritual. Sometimes the Goddess Dianic is used but it depends on the specifics. Some Wiccans use both the God and Goddess while others focus on only the Goddess.
If a spell needs to be reversed, the Goddess of Justice, Athena, may be called upon. In some cases there is a God of environmental protection that will be called on. The Wicca can use any method of invoking that they are comfortable with. This includes dance, songs, medications, and silence.
The overall intention of any Wiccan ritual is very important. They have to be done with a clear reason behind them. They should be promoting peace, healing, celebrating the phases of the mood, or common intentions. They should never be used for revenge or to create harm.
Cone of Power
This involves singing, drumming, and dancing to bring positive energy to the ritual. The focus on the energy is the true intent that you wish to receive from the outcome. After this step, the God and Goddess have to be thanked for the elements and the circle opened up.
Eating
It is a common practice for Wiccas to eat after they get done with a Wiccan ritual. This is believed to keep them grounded. Something very simple including a snack can help to keep a person centered. Get your food ready before the ritual so that it is something you can eat as soon as you get done. Food can come from any source, but your Wiccan Garden makes a healthy source.
